The Therapeutic Effects of Bacampicillin on Respiratory Tract Infection




Abstract
A clinical trial for therapeutic effect of Bacampicillin, a new ampicillin analogue, was made on 69 cases of respiratory tract infections after oral administration.
The results were evaluated by the improvement of clinical symptoms and signs as follows: excellent, good, fair, negative were applied for rating of effectiveness.
The results were excellent and good in 43 cases (86%) among 50 cases of respiratory tract infection other than pneumonia and bronchopneumonia, but excellent and good in 3 cases (30%) among 10 cases of pneumonia and bronchopneumonia. The organisms isolated from ineffective cases were mostly Gram negative bacilli.
Observed side effect were gastrointestinal disturbances 2 cases and skin rash 1 case.
It was the conclusion of this observation that the drug is effective in control of bronchoectasis.
